Google Analytics – Top New Feature

If only this top new feature were actually part of Google Analytics, the mules would be happy.

A good many things happen to web sites and traffic over the years.

You go to a relevant trade show and press the flesh.  Perhaps you get a mention on a major media outlet.  Your army of zombie Diggers and Sphinners finally break you viral for a few days.

Maybe you get very drunk at the gentleman’s club wake up with a vague memory of stuffing 1500 of your business cards into a fishbowl.  Luckily, the whole thing is on YouTube as a refresher.

Or what have you.  Mules do not go to gentleman’s clubs, for the record.  Go ahead, search YouTube.  We worry about the keywords you might use, but hey, it’s your break time, are we right?

What Google Analytics sorely lacks is notations for dates.  It doesn’t take long for that trade show — especially if it was one of many — in June of 2006 to become hazed by time.  The blip of traffic is there… now what was the reason for that…?

Oddly enough, this is the kind of thing you might expect Google to really like to provide.  They’d get to mine and use for their foul purposes your behavioural data, you would get added functionality.

So dear Google, give the mules a fancy “date notes” function to better explain to the boss why 1500 business cards and a $850 tab at Leisure Suite Larry’s was worth it — especially some time on, once the expense reports come through.  Please?
