Repeating and Tiling commands tell a background image whether it should be called once, repeat only horizontally (repeat-x), repeat only vertically (repeat-y), or repeat on both x-axis and y-axis (repeat).

Large, colorful, intricate background images are often not repeated. Gradients are often repeated along one or the other, the x-axis or the y-axis. Small tiles, often seamless to produce a consistent background pattern, are commonly repeated on both axes.

The herd recognizes that you will abuse this power, and anticipates complicity in the creation of numerous tartan and paisley atrocities.
