The Mules submit to the web site design, SEO, and SEM community:
If you are any good, then trust yourself.
Your customers are not always right.
Just say no.
When was the last time you told a client a simple “no” in response to their request to use 150-point Comica Sans for their main content? If that particular issue hasn’t come up recently, insert your own “we knew it was wrong” client request here. Did you do it anyway?
If your last “no” requires you think back very far, you’re probably not doing your job.
If you ask your doctor to cut off a perfectly good arm, do they oblige? Will your mechanic paint your windows black, if you insist? Will your lawyer submit for jury consideration that you be fined triple the maximum penalty for a speeding ticket – because you asked?
Of course they will.
That’s why you became a web site designer, an SEO, or an SEM expert… doctors, mechanics, and lawyers are out of their gourds.
Some things make no sense.
Your clients will ask for illogical or “dangerous” tactics, copy, or design elements anyway.
It is your professional right – and duty to your client – to say no.
